I intended to do a little work while on Ofu. There are quite a few feral cats that we weren’t able to trap on the last visit. Friends working for DMWR (Dept of Marine and Wildlife Resources) know of colony areas, and planned to help trap. Unfortunately, the MV Sili didn’t run as hoped and thus I didn’t have as supplies as soon nor as much help as I had hoped… but we were still able to trap some of the animals!
Additionally, Deb’s dog has had an ear hematoma for a while that has been really painful for him. She’s been hoping that I’d make a trip over… Deb Malae and her husband Ben run the Vaoto Lodge (www.vaotolodge.com), and were very gracious and helpful hosts during our last trip.
We trapped/neutered/returned several cats from the family in Ofu where we held our last clinic as well as trapping in the National Park and around the Ranger Station. We didn’t have time to do as many as I would have liked, but I guess I’ll have to plan another trip to one of the most beautiful places on the planet…. oh well!
